Types of torsion springs

  • Helical Springs
    • Typically used to store energy and subsequently release it, to absorb shock, or to maintain a force between contacting surfaces
    • Uses: clothespins, ratchets, counterbalance mechanisms, and motor and pump assembly

  • Torsion Bar
    • Used in the suspension systems of most automobiles and military vehicles
  • Double Torsion Springs
    • Made of two coil sections connected together. The two parts each build up their own levels of torque, and the whole unit has a torque level double that of a regular torsion spring. of a regular torsion spring.
